Pins for walkers from Debbie Evangel

Hey Tara (and Team),

Debbie Evangel made pins for each walker! She just needs to get a finalized # and list of names. How awesome is that? Also, she plans to be there as much as she can during the walk, definitely to cheer us all into the finish line! She says that is her plan, and is all contingent upon her successful remaining chemo treatment then 2 months of radiation.. so please everyone keep her in your prayers! She says she can't imagine how we walk 39 miles in 2 days! I can't imagine how she does what she does to fight cancer!

Challenge #2 Winner - Katie Alaga Smith

CONGRATULATIONS TO 911 ANGEL, KATIE ALAGA SMITH for winning the 2nd Team Challenge!

Challenge #2: The 1st team member to raise $500 within the next 10 days (March 16th-March 25th) will win an "Angel" Scentsy plug in warmer!

Katie surpassed that goal by March 24th and raised $830 in the last 10 days. AWESOME JOB KATIE!!!

911 Angels, Keep up the GREAT WORK in your fundraising efforts! Collectively, we have raised $11,530 putting our team in 6th place but that rank climbs daily! Very exciting. In addition to Katie, Congrats to Martha Chavez and Jill Ahearn for surpassing their "halfway" goal. They each now have raised over $1,000!!!

For those of you just beginning your fundraising .. Here are some mini goals to help you reach your $1,800 before the walk ....

By April 1st - $500
By May 1st - $1000
By June 1st - $1500
By July 1st - $1800

You should start planning small fundraisers (or big) in the next few months to help you achieve those goals. While the weather is still cold and rainy and keeps you indoors, it's the perfect time for Spring cleaning, start decluttering your home and then plan a few Garage Sales when the weather gets nicer.

If you have already started planning fundraiser events for the upcoming months, please send me details with the dates so the rest of the team can make plans to come and support. I will create an evite or facebook event within the next few days for an upcoming team meeting... I'm thinking a pot luck at a local park where we can bring the kids out to play and we can meet and chat as a team about team fundraisers and training. Stay tuned for details ...

Keep on Stepping 911 Angels!

Team Challenge

I'm sure by now all of you who have already registered have received email from Avon about the "Recruiting incentive" ... it's a wonderful way to recruit friends and add dollars (up to $500) to your fundraising account ... an opportunity for those of you who are especially worried about raising $1,800 in the next 124 days!!!!

1: Refer one individual * Receive $50 of fundraising credits toward your goal!
2: Refer two individuals * Receive $125 of fundraising credits toward your goal!
3: Refer three individuals * Receive $225 of fundraising credits toward your goal!
4: Refer four individuals * Receive $350 of fundraising credits toward your goal!
5: Refer five individuals * Receive $500 of fundraising credits toward your goal!

For those of you who have not yet registered ... please DO NOT use my name as a referral as I have already reached my fundraising goal and do not need the credits but some of the other team members do!!!! Please contact me for further info before registering .. I want to make sure someone on our team gets credit for you!!!

ALSO .... Congrats to those of you who have since registered since my last email and to those of you who have personalized your Avon website and sent out emails to your family and friends ... I can already see the donations rolling in!

Each year the 911 Angels proudly rank in the TOP TEN for Team Donations and last year we placed #4 for most money raised. This year as a team, we are a little behind in fundraising and haven't quite made the TOP 10 leaderboard ... we are a couple thousand dollars behind Team #10!

Buuuut, I know we can do it!!!! Each year, I make a team goal to reach at least $10,000 by March 25th. We are currently at $5,135 so we are half way there!!!! Use your facebook pages and personal email to solicit donations from your friends and family, let them know the BIG commitment you have made to make a difference and ask for their support!

Lastly, I am gonna throw out a team challenge .... for the 1st team member to reach $1,000.00 in donations will win a "911 Angel" Diva Stone baseball cap!!!

Okay, Go Angels Go !!!

2010 SF Avon Walk

First of all, I cannot begin to start planning the works of our 2011 Team without first acknowledging the phenomenal job of The 911 Angels - 2010 Team. After our walk things got so busy and then before I knew it the holidays were among us and I hadn't updated this blog with all the wonderful contributions and accomplishments from the 2010 team!!!! It truly was another phenomenal experience with some new challenges but amazing stories to share!!!! Like always, life changing ... for the better of course. Here is a synopsis of our weekend:

The weekend of July 10th, The 911 Angels joined more than 2,500 men and women in the eighth annual San Francisco Avon Walk for breast cancer raising 5.5 million dollars to advance access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer.

With the support of our family, friends and co-workers we banned together and spent months fundraising and training for this powerfully, life changing event. Our team collectively and successfully raised nearly $47,000, ranking as the 4th top fundraising team of all participants.

Carol Kurzig, president of the Avon Foundation for Women, announced during the Closing Ceremony a total of $2.75 million in grants to 11 local organizations, ensuring the funds raised immediately benefit the community. More grants are slated to be awarded throughout the year to additional local and national breast cancer programs.

“Our beneficiaries are changing the course of breast cancer - here in San Francisco, across the country, and around the world,” said Kurzig. “The Avon Foundation for Women has awarded more than $32 million to breast cancer organizations in Northern California over the years. And the outpouring of support and generosity through the Avon Walks enables us to make substantial and much-needed new grants that will benefit those facing breast cancer here in Northern California and nationally.

During the Avon Walk San Francisco, which is a noncompetitive event, women and men had a choice of walking a marathon (26.2 miles) or a marathon and a half (39.3 miles) over the 2 day weekend. The event kicked off on Saturday, July 10th, with an early morning Opening Ceremony at Fort Mason. Following the ceremony, walkers began their journey, traveling through San Francisco and concluding at the Avon Walk at the “Wellness Village” at Crocker Amazon Park, a “tent city” complete with two-person tents, hot showers, prepared meals, entertainment, and recreational activities such as the Spa Zone, yoga and Tomboy Tools’ “Tool School 101” demonstrations. On Sunday, July 11th, walkers completed another 13.1 miles together, ending back at Fort Mason, where thousands of family and friends greeted them and shared in a celebratory and moving Closing Ceremony, including the awarding of new grants.

To participate in the Avon Walk San Francisco, each walker raised a minimum of $1,800.00 in donations. The Avon Foundation for Women [a 501 (c)(3) public charity] raises and manages the funds, which it awards to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations to support five areas of the breast cancer cause, including awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services, and scientific research, all with a focus on the medically underserved.

The 911 Angels would personally like to thank each of our sponsors who enabled us to make a profound difference in the lives of so many.
